In light of developments regarding the Coronavirus outbreak, Harpenden Town Council has taken the decision to cancel the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day on 2 April, 2020.
The Town Mayor's first-ever charity Beer & Cheese Tasting, held at the Trust Centre on Saturday, 29th February, was a marvellous sell-out event and raised over £800 for the Harpenden Trust and the Luton & Dunstable Hospital Charitable Fund.
The Community Fund committee has welcomed two new members, Emma Deutrom and Jim McGown. The Fund is seeing increased demand for support from the Fund and its January meeting had the second record number of applications submitted; 10 new grants were made to a range of community groups in Harpenden.
The Care Fund reports that 80 pensioners have been helped with grants towards their utility bills: 140 seniors in the town had their days brightened, we are sure, when Christmas parcels were delivered personally by Trust volunteers to their front doors.
In the March Newsletter to Volunteers the Chairman of the Harpenden Trust, Richard Nichols, announced that the 2019 Christmas Appeal raised £53,734 (including Gift Aid). Well done everyone.
In the first two weeks of the New Year alone, the Harpenden Trust was thrilled to be able to talk to 13 potential volunteers for the dozens of diverse jobs that need doing throughout the year.
At its recent thank-you event for the Christmas Appeal collectors a special thanks was offered to recognise the dedication of Maurice Boughen for 51 years of collecting for the Christmas Appeal. Nick Luckett, Head of the Care Fund, and Pat Ring, People Director, presented a certificate acknowledging this incredible contribution.
