Mental Health Awareness Week: The Trust's New Initiative

This week is mental health awareness week. We would like to take the opportunity to introduce our involvement in a new initiative; the Harpenden Wellbeing Hub - supporting better mental health in our town.

The Harpenden Trust is partnering with our local GPs and MIND in Mid-Herts in this project.

Dr Tania Goodwin from The Village Surgery explains more: “As a GP, my colleagues and I understand only too well that there is a two way relationship between wellbeing and health; health influences wellbeing and wellbeing itself influences health. In a year where we have all experienced increased exposure to stresses and lost many of the coping mechanisms we had come to rely on, there has never been a more important mental health awareness week than this one. As we move gradually out of lockdown and head on the road to recovery, it is the perfect time for us all to consider what interventions we can take part in to improve our wellbeing. These might be social, community or physical activities.

This year’s theme for mental health awareness week is connecting with nature. If you aren’t sure where to start, the mental health foundation has come up with 7 top tips to help you. https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week/tips

The three Harpenden GP practices recognise the importance of wellbeing on health and are now working in partnership with The Harpenden Trust and MIND to set up a wellbeing hub for our local community.

We encourage anyone who runs a group/activity encompassing well-being (or who has a desire to run one) to email us if they’d like to be involved. We would love to hear from you.”
