Harpenden Trust Care Fund Update, July 2022

We continue to have a busy Summer of amazing activities that have been taking place despite COVID coming back. It is business as usual, plus we are looking into organising extra activities to help our local Ukrainian guests during the school holidays.

We have been very well represented at the various outdoor events including the Harpenden Carnival, Larks in the Park and a special event at the Lea School.

Youth & Schools activity has had a quiet year to-date; we have awarded 5 grants this financial year, benefiting seven pupils including two Ukrainian children.

Home Visitors continue to receive more than 50 requests a month for help. Most calls to clients are now made in person. We are now supporting some seven Ukrainian families. The Ukrainian coordinating group run by Harpenden Town Council has worked well in understanding the needs of our guests and what the various Harpenden organisations can each offer.

Befriending currently has 88 clients and 85 befriender volunteers. During the warm weather we have asked our befrienders to check-in with clients to remind them about hydration, etc.

Coffee mornings continue to be very popular, with quite a few new people joining the two groups. The Jubilee coffee morning held at the Trust Hall was a great success with 42 attendees. In addition to our regular fare we served fancy cakes which were much appreciated. Our Thursday coffee mornings at the Salvation Army Hall are now proving to be more popular, averaging 14 persons most weeks.

The Transport team stands at 24 volunteers.  June was a busy month with 50 clients transported to the Jubilee Tea Party and 15 to the Trust Centre for the Seniors Outing boat trip, as well as the usual transportation to the Tuesday and Thursday coffee mornings.
