Community Fund Supports Local Foodbank 'Garage'

The Salvation Army Community Centre in the town centre has played an important role in supporting the local community through the difficult times associated with Covid. Covid has seen several charities in the town, including the Harpenden Trust, working closely together to increase support for those in need.

The Salvation Army and the Bethany Church have engaged closely with the Trust to maximise support. The provision of a new ‘garage’ for the Foodbank at the Salvation Army Community Centre is an excellent example of this, and was recently formally opened by Lisa Scriven, Deputy Mayor of Harpenden.

The purchase and construction of the garage was funded by the Trust, which also runs Seniors’ coffee mornings at the Community Centre. The garage is being heavily used, and is situated at the rear of the Centre to allow easy access for users whilst freeing up valuable space inside the Centre.

Demand for the Foodbank remains high and is likely to remain so. The combined efforts of the three organisations will mean that local needs will continue to be met.
