Community Fund Supports Harpenden Rovers Youth Football Teams With New Shirts

It is Saturday morning at the Grove Junior School in Southdown and Harpenden Rovers Youth football teams are having their weekly training session and matches there. The Youth Club started playing in 2018 as the opportunity to play football at junior schools had largely disappeared.

The Club is run by volunteers most of whom are parents and their enthusiasm has resulted in the Club now having 128 playing members and a waiting list of 50. The youngest are aged 5 and boys go up to 12 and girls 13. The club also has 25 volunteers/coaches who are putting in their time to support the grassroots club.

The Harpenden Trust’s Community Fund provides financial support for community projects in the Harpenden area with grants for specific projects designed to develop, improve or enhance their work or for facilities for their members. As a result of an application made by the club, the Harpenden Trust were able to pay for new football shirts for the team.

Steve Pryor, Chairman of the Community Fund at the Harpenden Trust, said:

"The Community Fund of the Harpenden Trust were delighted to support this new initiative by paying for their football shirts and it is great to see the enjoyment and benefits that the participating children have gained. Another example of how the Harpenden Trust have made a positive contribution to the town."

Paul Crowson, Chairman of Harpenden Rovers, said:

“Harpenden Rovers would like to thank Harpenden Trust for their support in funds as it really makes a difference. We are looking forward to building a long-time relationship to benefit children in Harpenden in physical activity and to improve mental health via grassroot football for all abilities in a safe compliant environment.”
