Support from the Harpenden Money Advice Centre

The Harpenden Trust has supported the work of the Harpenden Money Advice Centre for those with financial problems. During this period of lockdown the Harpenden Money Advice Centre are running several online courses that may be of interest.

Harpenden Money Advice Centre is a local charity supported by churches across Harpenden, and they offer free and confidential debt and budgeting advice services to those in and around Harpenden.

In May and June they the Centre is running a series of free Money Management Courses to help anyone who is struggling to get on top of their finances or debts. The course will be run over two 90 minute sessions on Zoom on the following dates.

· Wednesday 13 and 20 May at 10am
· Thursday 21 and 28 May at 3pm
· Tuesday 2 and 9 June at 8:30pm

During the course participants will:
· review whether their income and expenditure budget balances
· learn tips and approaches to manage spending
· find out whether you have problem debt and understand the options open to you

The First Blue Plaque in Harpenden

Steve Pryor the Chair of the Community Fund of the Harpenden Trust was delighted to be invited to the unveiling of the first blue plaque in Harpenden. The blue plaque was installed to acknowledge the tremendous work carried out by Harpenden resident Judy Fryd. Judy had a daughter who suffered from learning disabilities and in 1946 founded an association that would provide help for children suffering from the same problems as her daughter. New Support Pod for Harpenden Mencap - supported by the Harpenden Trust Community Fund

Harpenden Mencap is an independent charity caring for adults with learning disabilities in Harpenden and the local area. Community Fund contributes to the installation of a garden ramp at Homedell House

Homedell House is a well established Retirement Housing Complex in Harpenden where some of the residents are disabled and getting into the garden has proven difficult. The Community Fund are delighted to have provided a grant contributing towards the installation of a ramp into the garden making access that much easier. It is now regularly used and Mary Moynihan, Development Manager at Homedell House confirms 'the residents all love the ramp and thank you again for the Harpenden Trust contribution'.
