Introducing ... Martin

“I joined the Trust in July 2022 looking for local volunteering opportunities. I was already assisting at the Memory Lane Café for the Town Council - a joint venture between the Trust, the Council and the Salvation Army. The café provides a weekly opportunity for anyone with dementia and their carer to meet for tea, cake, chat and sometimes organised activities, such as singing, crafts, talks and bingo. We introduced an 'interactive sensory projector' to the café - this is a motion-activated projector that is designed to allow any abilities or ages to enjoy using it to play games or simply enjoy and interact with the sounds and images. We have also taken it to a care home and a Reception year group with great success in the different settings - a very inspiring and rewarding experience.

"Having discovered the variety of Trust activities I joined the Library team keeping the Library open on a Wednesday afternoon and the Wellbeing Hub Befrienders team that helps connect individuals with locally based activities or clubs.”

If you are considering volunteering as a new hobby for 2024 please contact the Harpenden Trust office on 01582 460457 or email [email protected].
