A life-changer for Mike

Mike Joiner suffers from a rare and debilitating condition, Addison's Disease.  He needed to raise £2,000 to buy an electric wheelchair that would enable him to get out of his house and give him back some independence.

Alerted to Mike's plight, one of our home visitors called on him, with the result that the Trust agreed to donate £1,000 towards the cost of the wheelchair.  Mike was also encouraged to talk to the Herts Advertiser and this led to a news story in the paper.  Within two weeks generous readers, moved by Mike's predicament, had donated £l,420 towards his machine.

Mike is now riding around in his newly-purchased wheelchair and he has enough money left over to have alterations made to a storeroom near his front door to house the machine.

Mike's comment was: 'I can't thank the Herts Advertiser and the Harpenden Trust enough for their help.  To be able to get out and about again is a massive life-changer.'

Introducing ... Colin

“I started volunteering for the Harpenden Trust when I retired 2 years ago and was looking to put something back into the community I have lived in for 40 years.
